Supporting victims who need assistance with storm recovery.

 

It’s common for Duke Energy to respond to the worst Mother Nature sends our way.  This happened last week when a major weather system swept through South Carolina causing significant damage to the communities we serve.  The damage was significant and sadly deadly.

 

None of Duke’s facilities including the Oconee Nuclear Station were directly impacted by the system or the tornadoes it spawned.

 

However, some of Duke’s employees, families, friends and neighbors were impacted.  Photos, videos and personal stories shared through local media outlets tell the story we didn’t think would be written about this small corner of South Carolina.

 

Yesterday afternoon, during CBS affiliate WSPA’s fundraising telethon, Duke Energy announced a company donation of $20,000 to local United Way agencies to support victims who need assistance with storm recovery. The funding – provided by the nuclear station and the Duke Energy Foundation – will provide services for those in need, specifically in Oconee and Pickens counties.

 

Duke has a long history of giving to those in need, additionally many in the community have already stepped up to support those affected by the recent storms.  In fact, Duke will match qualifying contribution by thier employees or retirees to this or other qualifying relief efforts, so the total impact could be much greater than $20,000.
